C Melodies are sized between an alto and tenor sax. They are useful for playing with other musicians outside of traditional band settings, like with a keyboard or guitar player, perhaps in a polka band or at church. Unfortunately many of these old instruments have had their mouthpieces lost or broken, and there are not many options for replacement. This plastic mouthpiece is not very fancy, but it is economical and it will do it's job much better than an alto, tenor, or worn out mouthpiece.
Tip Opening is approximately .083 inch
What size and ligature does it take? I would first try a tenor ligature with an alto reed. Not all reeds and ligatures are created equal, so your results may vary. Some companies make C melody sax reeds, but I haven't tried them yet. A Vandoren alto reed will fit, but it needs fit to the mouthpiece with some precision as it is a a hair small in my opinion. When I get around to overhauling one of my C melodies, I will dive much deeper into that world. For now I primarily rely on my customers feedback which has been overwhelmingly positive for this product so far.
